Children and adults alike enjoy the delightful farm animals at Marcús Casa Rural.
It is the first thing they do every morning. Sometimes, however much I ask them to get dressed and brush their hair, the little ones in our family only want to run outside to say good morning to their animals! And, as you can imagine, the last thing they do before bed is say goodnight. To be honest, I enjoy it enormously too.
Seeing, stroking, listening to and even talking to the animals at our country house brings us together and makes us happy, young and old alike. We love seeing the excited faces of visiting children when they can stroke PEPA, our little pig, and RABBIT, our little white rabbit. It is a unique experience for them!
Most children who visit Marcús Casa Rural live in an urban environment. They do not normally have the opportunity to meet farm animals. Many live in small spaces where even keeping pets such as dogs and cats is difficult. We love seeing their reaction to our animals: it is as though they have discovered a new world!
That is why, whenever we can, we remind adults how important it is to give children the chance to interact with farm animals. Besides the emotional connection and empathy it encourages, it teaches other important values.
1. Where food comes from
A few days at a country house can be very educational for children who live in cities. They can learn where their food comes from and see the work involved in planning, growing and harvesting crops, as well as raising and caring for livestock. Understanding farming helps children appreciate the food on their table each day.
2. The cycle of life
The cycle of life can be difficult to teach and accept. On a farm, children encounter a natural world with droughts, floods and fires. Grass grows and is cut. Insects pollinate wildflowers. Farm animals are born, grow up and become part of the family until their lives come to an end. Children can see the cycles they learn about in school unfolding around them.
3. Responsibility
Feeding animals, watering fields, cleaning stables and the many other daily tasks children can observe at Marcús Casa Rural teach them the responsibility involved in caring for living things and producing food.
4. Appreciation of our planet
You should hear how many questions the children in visiting families ask us! Their curious minds are eager to understand why things are the way they are. They want to experiment, touch, smell and feel everything around them in the countryside. This experience encourages positive attitudes towards wildlife, the climate and nature.
For all these reasons, and many more, we invite you and your family to Marcús Casa Rural. We are at the Pallera de Marcús, 3 km from Solsona and 619 metres above sea level, surrounded by the hills and small valleys of the Solsonès, near the River Cardener and the plants and wildlife along its banks.
Say good morning to our farm animals and discover the peaks of the Pyrenees, about 30 km from the house. At the end of the day, enjoy some peace and rest with family, friends and our delightful farm animals. Doesn’t that sound wonderful?
